FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Edina Public Schools Recommends
Patrick Duffy for Edina, Minn., July 14, 2008 – Edina Public Schools is pleased to announce its recommendation for Patrick Duffy to serve as assistant principal at South View Middle School. The position proposal will be an action item at the July 21 School Board meeting. Duffy has been employed by Hopkins Public Schools for the past ten years. His most recent position has been a special assignment as part of the Hopkins High School Administrative Team as the Equity Coordinator and Teacher Leader. While on special assignment, Duffy worked on a variety of initiatives related to student achievement, staff development, and diversity. Prior to this role, he taught social studies at both the middle school and high school levels. Duffy’s background also includes developing programs that foster student-to-student mentoring, curriculum development, Advanced Placement coursework and programming, cultural competence development and remedial skills learning. Duffy received a Bachelor of Arts in history and a Master of Education from the University of Minnesota. He has also studied Spanish at Fundacion Ortega y Gasset in Toledo, Spain and theater arts at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. Duffy completed his principal licensure at the University of Minnesota and is now a doctoral candidate for educational policy and administration. “Patrick’s numerous leadership experiences in Hopkins have prepared him well for his administrative position at South View Middle School. His skills and talents will greatly complement the leadership at the school and in our District,” said Edina Superintendent Ric Dressen. Duffy will replace Renee Van Gorp, whose resignation was effective June 30. In an effort to ensure a smooth transition, the District will be developing an entrance plan for Duffy. He will begin his duties in July 2008.
