2002-03: Program Overview
| Recently I asked a 5th grade art student to write a few words about what art class had taught her. She is a very fine artist, but I had no idea that her words would be so eloquent. I had been thinking about what I wanted to write for the beginning of this web page. She says, much better than I can, what the art program in Edina means to our students. ..........................................................Connie Magoffin, art teacher, Concord |

"I feel that art has taught me to really think deeply about things. In my head, when I look at something, I can see the shapes that make it what it is. Art has taught me to look at things from all angles, so that I don't miss a thing. Another thing art has taught me, is that it is perfectly fine, actually perfect, to do something out of the ordinary. Art tells me that the more original you are, the more confidence you have in yourself. Art has taught me many things, and those are only a few."

During the five years that students are in the elementary art program, Edina art teachers try to offer exposure to a variety of media and techniques, in addition to art history and aesthetics. Our new elementary art curriculum has provided fascinating opportunities for exploration. The following are examples of our recent units of study in art at Concord in the 2002-03 school year.
